Dérive

All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking.” — Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche

A dérive is an unplanned journey through a landscape, usually urban, on which the subtle aesthetic contours of the surrounding architecture and geography subconsciously direct the travellers, with the ultimate goal of encountering an entirely new and authentic experience.

I took my first Dérive yesterday with a group of people. It was amazing. I saw things I haven’t seen before. For the first time I let my mind direct my steps and the results were amazing. For those in a rut, take an unplanned journey and let your mind wander. You might find your solution there.
